(Winston Salem, NC) – The National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Championship Season is underway, and the 13U Morganton All-Star team, captained by Jimmy Piercy, PGA, booked their ticket to the next round. Seven All-Star teams took to the course at Bermuda Run Country Club in Winston Salem, NC, but the Morganton All-Star team prevailed, claiming the qualifying position from the event to move on to the PGA Jr. League Section Championship at Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club in Southern Pines, NC on August 12th.
Each of the seven All-Star leagues brought between six and eight players to the event, and each team split up into four groups. The groups then played nine holes in a scramble format, with the scores from the top three groups in each league combining to form the league’s overall total.
In the morning, the Tanglewood Park All-Star team led by Daniel Byrd, PGA set the early mark to beat at 103 (31-36-36).
When the afternoon groups teed off, the Morganton All-Star team took the reins of the competition, and by the end of their nine holes, they had surpassed their nearest competitors by more than three strokes, finishing the event at 100 (32-34-34).
The next PGA Jr. League local section qualifier will be held on Monday, August 2 at Columbia Country Club in Blythewood, South Carolina.
