The Hilton Head Island Chapter was formed in 1979 as the Hilton Head Island Golf Professional’s Association (HHIGPA) by a group of local golf professionals, namely Skip Malek, Tim Moss, Cary Corbitt and a few others for the sole purpose of providing playing opportunities, an education program and a junior golf program for the community. At the time of incorporation, we were not recognized as a Chapter by the Carolinas PGA due to size.
The HHIGPA officially became the Hilton Head Island Chapter of the Carolinas PGA in the fall of 2001. The strength of our leadership and the strong local participation of key Professionals who formed the original HHIGPA are reasons why we are fortunate to be a part of an organization today offering local playing opportunities, quarterly educational meetings, and a Junior Golf Association which consistently has over 300 participants. We should all be very proud of our past Island Cup Scholarship program that has assisted over 65 young high school graduates with college assistance, the Heritage Hooked on Golf Program, and the Hilton Head Open. All of these activities and much more are opportunities for us to give back to our community.
