Pinehurst, NC – November 4, 2024 PGA REACH Carolinas celebrated the success of its first-ever “Birdie Blitz” fundraiser, a unique golf event supporting PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) Carolinas. This impactful tournament, dedicated to enhancing the lives of military veterans through golf, took place on November 4, 2024, at Pinewild Country Club of Pinehurst in North Carolina, with a 10:00 AM shotgun start.

The Birdie Blitz brought together two-player teams who invited their networks to pledge donations per birdie scored or contribute via flat donations. The event featured a specially designed par-3 course utilizing Pinewild’s Azalea and Magnolia courses, where each hole was modified to a par 3 to maximize birdie-making opportunities across the five-hour tournament.

A variety of sponsors and partners contributed to making this event memorable. All participants received a commemorative gift package from Carolinas PGA partners Branded Bills, Evolve Golf, and Johnnie-O. Teams enjoyed breakfast from Biscuitville, a barbeque lunch from City Barbeque, and Calamity Jane beer from Fire Maker Brewing throughout the day. Enhancing the experience, The Pipe & Pint cigars were featured on Hole #1, and products from BHAWK (Brad Halling American Whiskey Ko.) were tasted on Hole #18. Closest To The Pin competitions across the course included prizes from various generous supporters. As an elevated sponsor, Mt. Olive Pickle Company was represented by Executive Vice President Greg Smith and Senior Director of Business Information Clif Moody, who each participated and contributed substantially to the fundraising efforts.

Funds raised from the Birdie Blitz will directly support PGA HOPE Carolinas, the military pillar of PGA REACH Carolinas. This program leverages golf to improve veterans’ physical and mental well-being and support their transition to civilian life. It provides adaptive golf instruction and therapeutic engagement, offering a lasting positive impact for veterans.

Following the tournament, a celebratory reception capped off the day. Participants and supporters enjoyed live music from the local band Whiskey Pines and an open bar featuring drinks with BHAWK products. Awards were presented, with “Best Dressed” going to Michael Smith, PGA, and Luke Howard. The “Most Consecutive Birdies” honor ended in a three-way tie between teams Tyler Gosselin, PGA, and Justin Emmons; Ben Bridgers, PGA, and David Gilinsky, PGA; and Nick Rencis and Brian Davidson, each team achieving five birdies. Nick Rencis and Brian Davidson earned the “Most Birdies” title with an impressive 18 birdies, while Tyler Gosselin, PGA, and Justin Emmons raised the highest donations, surpassing $4,000.

This event was a meaningful celebration for golf enthusiasts and veteran supporters, combining the sport with a mission to create a memorable experience for all involved. Over $80,000 was raised on the day, and with a target of $100,000 by Veteran’s Day, donations are still being accepted until November 11, 2024, via the following Birdie Blitz Donation Link.

The Carolinas PGA extends a heartfelt thank you to all participants, donors, and sponsors for their generosity and dedication. Special thanks go to all companies and organizations involved as sponsors, partners, or participants who enhanced the experience. Additional appreciation goes to Pinewild Country Club of Pinehurst and its staff, especially Director of Golf Kyle Kirk, PGA, and General Manager Chris Little, PGA. Pinewild is hosting “Patriot Week” to continue this celebration from November 4 through November 8. Their celebration is to honor local veterans, and the week includes collecting donations, a Guest Golf Day with raffle prizes and a silent auction, and an Annual Vehicle Show and Social. In the past, the week has collected over $145,000, and this year, it will specifically go to charities, including The Brotherhood of Warriors, The Sandhills MOAA “Veteran Support Fund” and Military Missions in Action (MMIA).
