Kelly Mitchum, PGA takes home his third Carolinas Open title

August 19, 2020 (Winston-Salem, NC) – Kelly Mitchum, PGA takes home his third Carolinas Open title. He backed up a 1-under, 70 in round one with a 5-under, 66 in round two. His second-round included eight birdies that led the field today. His front nine 31, included five of those birdies and no bogeys. Kelly also won the Carolinas Open in 2006 and 2009.

Forsyth Country Club proved to be quite the test for the 96th BB&T Carolinas Open. The 36-hole Championship included flawless course conditions and two days of perfect weather.

The leaderboard was extremely tight throughout the day. Finishing second at 5-under for the tournament were Kyle Akins, PGA and the low amateur was David Gies. Akins carded four birdies and two bogeys on his way to a 69 today. Gies eagled the par-5 5th hole and rolled in 5 birdies to finish with a 68 today.

James Mishoe finished in solo fourth at 4-under. He led the tournament with 8 birdies in the first round and shot rounds of 68 and 70. Aaron O’Callaghan and Christian Castillo finished tied in 5th at 3-under.

Skins

Three skins were awarded in round two. Steve Larick, PGA holed out from 115 yards on the par-4 18th for an eagle. Drew Younts, PGA birdied the par-3 14th. Gus Ulrich, PGA eagled the par-4 13th.

The 2020 Carolinas PGA Carolinas Open is an official Bob Boyd CPGA Player of the Year Award Presented by OMEGA points event.  Additionally, Senior PGA Professionals’ scores count toward the CPGA Johnny Palmer Trophy Presented by True Temper.
