Boston and Gibson Use Late Surge to Capture 2021 Carolinas PGA Pro-Assistant Championship
(Wallace, NC) – With only a few holes remaining, the champions of the 2021 Carolinas PGA Pro-Assistant Championship at River Landing Country Club in Wallace, NC looked to be completely set. Professional Andrew Boston, PGA and Assistant Tommy Gibson, PGA, both of Old Town Club, had other ideas, however, rocketing up the leaderboard over the last few holes to force a playoff with Professional Greg Boyette, PGA and Assistant Billy Ross, both of Bulls Bay Golf Club. After their late surge, Boston and Gibson continued their momentum, as Gibson birdied the first playoff hole to give his team the overall victory.
Boyette and Ross were phenomenal throughout the first day of competition, sharing the 18-hole lead at nine-under-par with the Jacksonville Country Club pair of Professional Holden Abrams, PGA and Assistant Jedidiah Frazier.
Boston and Gibson remained in contention, trailing the leaders by two strokes going into round two, but they used a ten-under-par, 62 on the final day to match Boyette and Ross over the 36-hole championship before the playoff.
The duo of Professional Larry George, PGA and Assistant Jeff Hale, PGA, playing on their home course, used a stellar second round of nine-under-par to finish the tournament in third place, three strokes behind the leaders.
The pairs of Professional Jonathan Dudley, PGA of Indian Valley Golf Course and Assistant Brock Elder of Forest Oaks Country Club, Professional Caleb Ridings, PGA of Country Club of Landfall and Assistant Brandon Alexander, PGA of Alamance Country Club, and Professional Neal Lancaster and Assistant Kyle Simpson of Bear Trail Golf Club finished the tournament tied for fourth place at thirteen-under-par.
