Huge news for Carolina’s PGA coaching representation!
Seven of our own just made Golf Digest’s Best Young Teachers in America list for 2027-2028! Andrew Kiger (The Club at 12 Oaks ), Leslie Cloots (North Ridge Country Club), Kelly Edelblut Fry (Pinehurst Resort Golf Academy), Eric Jordan (GOLFTEC Durham), Grant Gaugler III (Springfield Golf Club), Stuart McKechnie (Phenom Golf Lab), and Martin Lucas (Eagle Ridge Golf Club) made the cut, out of a national field of 300+ instructors!

Home turf victory at the Club Car CPGA Pro-Official Championship! 🏆⛳️
Sixty teams of Carolinas PGA Professionals and club officials battled it out last week at Solina Golf Club, but local knowledge reigned supreme. Congratulations to Ben Carberry (Assistant Pro, Columbia Country Club) and Troy Thrall (General Manager, Solina Golf Club) on firing a dominant -8 (63) to take home the hardware!
Huge thanks to our Title Partner Club Car and all of our event partners for making this week an incredible experience for our section. Another shoutout to Director of Golf, Steven Hartwig, PGA, and the entire staff at Solina GC for hosting an unforgettable week.

Tobacco Road Golf just opened its newest addition, and CPGA staff got to be some of the first to play it.
A few of us made the trip out for the grand opening of the Match Box, Tobacco Road’s new 12-hole short course. Plenty of good golf and no shortage of good shots, including a hole-in-one on 10 from our CEO, Jeff Abbot!

David Siegel (a) is your 2026 South Carolina Senior Open Champion! Siegel fired a 68 in the opening round at Springfield Golf Club and finished the tournament at 9-under, winning by four shots over the field.
In the Super Senior Division, James Pearson (a) took the title at 3-over for the tournament, carding rounds of 73 and 74, his third straight South Carolina Senior Open Super Senior title after also winning in 2024 and 2025. He also claimed the Super Senior Division at this year’s North Carolina Open - what a year he has had!

John Ogden, PGA, is your CPGA Senior Professional Champion! He finished at 7-under to claim the title at Bulls Bay Golf Club, with Head Professional Greg Boyette, PGA, taking second on his home course at 6-under.

Thats a wrap on day 1 of the XXIO CPGA Women’s Professional Championship & Senior Professional Championship!
David Engram, PGA leads the Senior’s at 5-under and the Women’s is tied at 3-under with Marcy Newton, PGA & Bailey Stromberg sitting at the top. It was a hot one at Lea Anne Brown but play starts tomorrow at 7:30 AM. See you tomorrow!!

Symon Balbin is your 62nd North Carolina Open champion! A final-round 66 capped off a wire-to-wire performance, finishing 16-under, two shots clear of the field at Forest Oaks Country Club.
Even the weather couldn’t slow this one down. Forest Oaks Country Club and Director of Golf Ben Sloan, PGA delivered a championship-caliber week from start to finish.
