Sanders Holds Lead to Win CPGA Senior Professional Championship

August 11, 2020 (Pinehurst, NC) – The Sandhills presented a beautiful day for the final round of the CPGA Senior Professional Championship. Players fought hard for one of the six spots available into the 32nd Senior PGA Professional Championship to be held October 15-18, 2020 at PGA Golf Club (Wannamaker & Ryder Courses) in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Derek Sanders, PGA of Whispering Pines, NC held on strong through today’s round to couple his first round 7-under-par with a 3-under to finish at 10-under for the championship. Sanders finished four shots ahead of the rest of the field, incredibly happy with his performance. “I’m so happy I finally won in this Section! This really means a lot,” said Sanders, reflecting on this great accomplishment.

Holding his second-place position was Burke Cromer, PGA of Northwoods CC who finished at 6-under par after his two rounds of 67 & 71. His final round was very consistent with two birdies and only one bogey on the card. Only one shot back from Cromer was Neal Lancaster, PGA and Gus Ulrich, PGA of Pinewild CC who tied for third at 5-under. Rounding out the top six and finishing at 4-under was Mitch Adams, PGA of Pinewood CC and Rick Morton, PGA of Rock Creek G&CC.

These top six have qualified for the 32nd Senior PGA Professional Championship which will take place in October. Congratulations!
