(Charlotte, NC) – The 13U Charlotte 3 League All-Star team, captained by Brent Reneau, PGA and coached by Mike Abate, PGA, became the second group to book their ticket to the next round at the National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Section Local Qualifier at Raintree Country Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. 10 13U All-Star teams and 3 17U All-Star teams took to the course at Raintree Country Club North Course, but three teams prevailed, claiming the qualifying positions from the event to advance to the PGA Jr. League Section Championship at Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club in Southern Pines, North Carolina on August 12th

Each of the All-Star leagues brought between six and eight players to the event, and each team split up into three to four groups. The groups then played nine holes in a scramble format, with the scores from the top three groups in each 13U group and top two groups in each 17U group combining to form the league’s overall total.

The morning wave for the 17U qualifier set off with a shotgun start at 11:00 a.m., and the 17U Tanglewood Park All-Star team and the 17U Greensboro All-Star team came out strong with some low scores. By the end of their nine holes, the 17U Tanglewood Park All-Star team had surpassed their nearest competitors by only one stroke, finishing the event at 66 (32-34).

The afternoon wave set off with a shotgun start at 2:00 p.m., and the Charlotte 3 All-Star team immediately began distancing themselves from the competition. At the end of the round, the Charlotte 3 All-Star team had surpassed the Charlotte 5 All-Star team captained by Jonthan Inman, PGA by more than 3 strokes, finishing the event at 90 (29-30-31).

The next PGA Jr. League local section qualifier will be help on Monday, August 2 at Columbia Country Club in Blythewood, South Carolina.

We want to send a big thank you to all of the competitors, parents, coaches, and captains that made this wonderful event possible, as well as Kris Cappuzo, PGA, Brian Talley, PGA, Steve Kurr, PGA and all of the wonderful staff at Raintree Country Club.
