National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Carolinas PGA Section Championship was Held at Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club on August 12th
SOUTHERN PINES, NC (August 12, 2021) – Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club hosted the National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Carolinas PGA Section Championship, with eight All-Star teams of junior golfers ages 17 and under and their families meeting for a fun, festival-like day of competition.
Section Qualifiers and Championships are the first of three phases in the National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Championship Season, which highlights the aspirational nature of competition celebrated in a way unique to PGA Jr. League. “We were thrilled to bring the Section Championship to Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club,” said Jessica Asbury, PGA REACH Carolinas Coordinator. “Ushering in the National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Championship Season by welcoming our local All-Star teams, coaches, and families to the Facility for an exciting weekend is always fun for our PGA Section.”
What a great day for golf! The teams had some great scores during the PGA Jr. League Carolinas Section Championship. The section had four (4) teams compete in the 13U and 17U Section Championship.
The 13U Section Championship division included the Charlotte 3 All-Star team captained by Brent Reneau, PGA and coach Mike Abate, PGA, the Morganton All-Star team captained by Jimmy Piercy, PGA and coach Jason Akel, PGA, the Par Tee All-Star team captained by Tom Mason, PGA, and the Highland Country Club All-Star team captained by Micah Vugrinec, PGA. These juniors played very well, and the section had two (2) teams advance to the Carolinas PGA Jr. League Section Championship Finals this afternoon, Charlotte 3 All-Stars and Par Tee All-Stars. The Carolinas PGA are happy to announce that the Charlotte 3 team are the 2021 Carolinas PGA 13U Section Champions!
In the 17U Section Championship division, the Carolinas PGA had four (4) teams compete; the Tanglewood All-Star team captained by Daniel Byrd, PGA, the Wildwood Green All-Star team captained by Jimmy Hamilton, PGA, the Greensboro All-Star team captained by Brock Elder, PGA, and the Pine Hollow GC All-Star team captained by Johnny Scott, PGA. These juniors played very well, and the CPGA had two (2) teams advance to the Carolinas PGA Jr. League 17U Section Championship Finals in the afternoon. The 17U Greensboro All-Stars and 17U Tanglewood All-Stars battled it out by selecting their two best players to go head-to-head to crown a champion. After 3 rounds the CPGA are happy to announce that the Greensboro All-Star team is the 2021 Carolinas 17U PGA Section Champions.
Due to the fact that the Carolinas PGA Section won an “at-large bid” we were given the opportunity to take two (2) 13U & 17U teams to the PGA Jr. League Regional Qualifiers at Kingmills Resort in Williamsburg, VA. With all that being said, the CPGA are excited to announce that the 13U Charlotte 3, the 13U Par Tee, the 17U Tanglewood, and the 17U Greensboro All-Star teams are advancing to the Regional Qualifier on September 3rd-5th.
