Morton Secures CPGA Senior Professional Championship

(Camden, SC) July 23, 2019 – Camden Country Club proved to be a challenging track for two warm but beautiful days in central South Carolina. The CPGA Senior Professional Championship serves as a qualifier for the National Senior Professional Championship and six qualifying spots were on the line. The 2019 Senior PGA Professional Championship presented by Cadillac will be held October 3-6 at the Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, TX.

Rick Morton, PGA Professional at Rock Creek Golf and Country Club finished 5 shots under par after rounds of 67 and 68. Morton’s 135 was good enough for a two stroke victory over Jerry Haas, PGA and Tim Straub, PGA. Gus Ulrich, PGA finished even par and Neal Lancaster, PGA finished +1 to qualify for the National Senior Professional Championship as well.

Tied at +2, the final qualifying spot came down to a playoff between Ray Franz, PGA and Cleve Coldwater, PGA. Franz was able to par the first hole to secure his spot in the National Championship.

Skins were also awarded each round. The first round included an eagle on the  par 5 7th by Haas and birdies by John Faidley, PGA on the par 4 10th hold and Wesley Jones on the par 3 12h. Day two included birdies by Mike Lawrence, PGA on hole 2, Tim Straub, PGA on hole 10 and David Thore, PGA on hole 17.
