Highlands CC League All-Stars Advance at PGA Jr. League Local Section Qualifier

(Clayton, NC) – The National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Championship Season is underway, and the 13U Highlands Country Club League All-Star team, captained by Micah Vugrcnec, PGA, became one of the first groups to book their ticket to the next round. 11 all-star teams took to the course at Pine Hollow Golf Club in Clayton, NC, but the Highlands team prevailed, claiming the sole qualifying position from the event to move on to the PGA Jr. League Section Championship at Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club in Southern Pines, NC on August 12th.

Each of the 11 All-Star leagues brought between six and eight players to the event, and each team split up into four groups. The groups then played nine holes in a scramble format, with the scores from the top three groups in each league combining to form the league’s overall total.

In the morning, the Bentwinds League All-Star team, led by Kyle Akins, PGA and Inaugural CPGA Women’s Champion Evelyn Walters, PGA, set the early mark to beat at 103 (33-34-36). Close behind them was the Raleigh 1 League All-Star team, captained by Bryce Gill, PGA, at 104 (33-33-38).

The afternoon wave set off with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m., and the Highlands team immediately began distancing themselves from the competition. By the end of their nine holes, the Highlands team had surpassed their nearest competitors by more than ten strokes, finishing the event at 92 (28-30-34).

The next PGA Jr. League local section qualifier will be held on Monday at Raintree Country Club in Charlotte.

We want to send a big thank you to all of the competitors, parents, coaches, and captains that made this wonderful event possible, as well as Johnny Scott, PGA and all of the wonderful staff at Pine Hollow.
