Hall of Fame Basketball Coach Roy Williams Featured at 2023 Carolinas PGA Super Show

GREENSBORO, NC (February 24, 2023) – The 2023 Carolinas PGA Super Show was held at the Greensboro Coliseum this past Monday and Tuesday where upwards of 750 golf professionals attended the Section’s annual meeting, merchandise show, and various education sessions.

 

The event preceded with a Special Awards and Honors Dinner presented by Club Car on Sunday evening where thirteen Carolinas PGA Professionals were recognized for their  contributions to the game including Honorary President Bob Byrnes, PGA as the 2022 Golf Professional of the Year and headlined by Tim Moss, PGA who was inducted posthumously into the Carolinas PGA Hall of Fame.

 

The CPGA Annual Meeting presented by Golf Pro Payments took place on Monday morning. During the meeting, the following three Chapter Directors and Independent Director were sworn into office: Jason Cherry, PGA, Cape Fear Chapter, Chase Butler, PGA, Palmetto Chapter, JT Symons, PGA, Atlantic Chapter, and Stan Little, incoming Independent Director. The officers held a vote to pass Resolution 1 and the proposed amendment received well beyond the required two-thirds affirmative vote. The sold-out Merchandise Show is the largest regional golf show and featured over 200 vendor booths. Several informal education sessions were held on the show floor including a look-back into the section during Author and Historian Lee Pace’s “CPGA Centennial Celebration” segment. 

 

Basketball Hall of Fame member and former UNC Basketball coach Roy Williams headlined Monday evening’s education session where he shared lessons from his life about coaching and leadership. Jay Karen, CEO of National Golf Course Owners Association, presented a SWOT Analysis in Tuesday morning’s education session regarding trends in the golf industry. The 2023 Winter Teaching Summit presented by deWiz and OnForm was held on Tuesday afternoon where Krista Dunton, PGA, Dr. Rick Sessinghaus, PGA, and Dr. Sasho MacKenzie shared their expertise. Krista Dunton, PGA, Carolinas PGA Teacher of the Year and Director of Instruction at Berkeley Hall Club, shared her teaching philosophy incorporating player specific lessons based on personality types and physical assessments. Dr. Rick Sessinghaus, PGA, Director of FlowCode Golf Academy & life long swing & golf mental game coach of Collin Morikawa, discussed how to bring mental performance coaching to students and inspired the professionals with stories of how Collin Morikawa evolved mentally. Dr. Sasho MacKenzie, Professor at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia, Canada, presented on the application of the latest research in biomechanics to increase swing speed.

 

The show concluded with the annual Cash Jackpot where CPGA Life Member Joseph Pearson, PGA walked away with $3,000 and a $2,000 travel voucher to any domestic trip thanks to section partner Signature Golf. Darrell Posey, Ryan Duckworth, PGA, Jeff Evatt, PGA, and Brian Joyce, PGA each walked away with $1,000.
