Greensboro, NC – My fellowship journey as the Sara Sunny Harris Hutchison PGA WORKS Fellow may be coming to an end, but in so many ways, it feels like the beginning. When I stepped into this role right after graduating college, I had no idea where it would take me. Now, 15 months later, I am leaving with invaluable skills, lifelong relationships, and new perspectives that will continue to shape the way I work and grow.
As cliché as it sounds, golf truly is a beautiful game. Yes, it’s rewarding to stripe a drive down the fairway or sink a thirty-foot putt, but what this fellowship has shown me is that the real beauty of golf lies in its impact on people and communities. I saw it in the faces of juniors advancing round after round in Drive, Chip & Putt; in the testimonies of veterans and active military members whose lives were changed or even saved by the game; and in the stories of past PGA WORKS Fellows who are now thriving in the golf industry. Throughout my fellowship, I’ve said it again and again: this was truly the best first job I could have ever asked for, and I’m so thankful.
So, as they say, it’s not a goodbye, but a see you later! I have loved my time here at the Carolinas PGA, so it only felt right to continue within the PGA of America. I’m excited to share that I’ll be starting the next chapter of my career as a Championships Administration Coordinator at PGA of America Headquarters in Frisco, Texas, supporting the administrative side of championships across the country.
I want to start off and say thank you to the PGA of America and the PGA of America REACH Foundation. Every single person I crossed paths with accepted me with open arms, which fueled my passion to keep building my career here. To the PGA of America REACH Foundation specifically, I thank them for all the opportunities and guidance they have provided, all of which opened my eyes to the golf industry and made me a more open minded person. Thank you to the Carolinas PGA Section members. The people in this section are truly special, full of fire, hard work, and kindness. I’ve made lifelong friends, built relationships I’ll always cherish, and met people who truly inspire me. And finally, thank you to the Carolinas PGA Section Staff. These people became my family and made everyday in the office and out on the golf course an environment to laugh, learn, and be myself. I learned something from each person on this staff, and will miss them very much.
All in all, I am endlessly grateful for the PGA WORKS Fellowship, and for all the amazing experiences, people I met, and lessons that have shaped me. My time in the Carolinas will hold a special place in my heart, and I am excited for what is ahead!
