Fayetteville, NC – On Thursday, August 15, 2024, the PGA REACH Carolinas Foundation hosted the 2024 National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Carolinas Section Championship at Gates Four Golf and Country Club . 

There were a total of 54 participants between the ages of ten and seventeen, who competed in a 13U division and 17U division.

The 13U division consisted of four teams of eight athletes: 13U Lonnie Poole Golf Club League, 13U Tanglewood Park League, 13U Cleveland County League Team 1, and 13U Clemson League. The 17U division consisted of four teams of six athletes: 17U Bentwinds League Team 1, 17U Fayetteville League Team 1, 17U Tanglewood Park League Team 1, and 17U Greensboro League Team 2. 

The format of the event was Match Play with a Flag system. Teams were split into pairs of two, and then matched up against another pair of two from a different team. The duos played a scramble format on the front nine of the course, and kept track of scores throughout the round. For each three holes of golf, one flag was available to win. Whichever team of two had the lower score, won the flag. If the pairs tied, then each pair would receive half a flag. Each 13U team had four groups of two, giving each team the opportunity to win up to twelve flags. Each 17U team had three groups of two, giving them the opportunity to win up to nine flags.

 

The morning matchups and winners were as follows:

13u Cleveland County League Team 1 vs. 13u Tanglewood Park League

13u Clemson League vs. 13u Lonnie Poole GC League 

Winner: 13u Lonnie Poole GC League 

17u Bentwinds League Team 1 vs. 17u Greensboro League Team 2

Winner: 17u Bentwinds League Team 

17u Tanglewood Park League Team 1 vs. 17u Fayetteville League Team 1 

Winner: 17u Fayetteville League Team 1 

The afternoon round followed the same format of the morning round, but consisted only of the winning teams from the morning.

After a full day of exciting play, 13U Section Champions Cleveland County League Team 1, 13U Runner-Up Lonnie Poole GC League, 17U Champions Fayetteville League Team 1, and 17U Runner-Up Bentwinds Country Club League Team 1 are advancing to the 2024 National Car Rental PGA Jr League Regional Championship on September 20-22 at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, GA!
