An updatefrom your Area Director, Donald Clement, PGA:

Our Area VII Challenge at The Grande Dunes Members Club was a success and I wanted to thank Brian Vest, PGA and his team for hosting our Area VII event, along with Chef Mike Marques, for preparing our lunch on April 11. The team of Nicole Winn, PGA, and Martyn Woodhouse, PGA, from the Golf Academy of America - Carolinas came out on top of the nine-hole modified Stableford Area Golf Challenge.  They finished regulation tied with PGA Life Member Gordon McNeil and PGA Retired Member Gregg Juster.  Winn and Woodhouse won a chip-off on the ninth green.  By doing so, the duo gains an invitation to play in the 2018 Global Golf Sales Par-3 Challenge on Pinehurst’s “The Cradle” on Monday, November 26, featuring a $10,000 purse!

Wanted to mention and thank Matt Biddington, PGA and William Rowehl, PGA for their very successful Drive, Chip and Putt competition held at The Legends Resort in Myrtle Beach back in July. What a joy to see so many kids trying to qualify for the next level.

Since our last update, a couple of position promotions include Matt Daly, PGA, promoted to Director of Operations with the Founders Group International and Casey Cook, PGA, promoted to Director of Retail, also with the Founders Group International.

What a spring and summer Area VII Golf Courses have gone through. Weather has played a major factor in the golf operations at Grand Strand golf courses. Many of the courses had a great spring.  As many areas have experienced in the Carolina’s, we definitely experienced our share of issues. Most Grand Strand courses over seed with rye grass, and when the rye grass died out, we experienced quite a bit of winter kill. A number of courses had to close and re-sprig greens, rendering them closed for several months. There were a number of courses that closed for 30-45 days to repair/re-sod greens and fairways back in June and July. The majority of courses have recovered and reopened and bookings are looking good for the fall season.

If there is anything I can do to help you, please do not hesitate to give me a call.
