First and foremost, my heart and prayers go out
to the many that have been affected by the weather events over
the last 60 days. Hurricane Florence caused major damage to many
NC and SC Coastal facilities. The Grand Strand courses were
preparing for a “Hugo like” storm, and thankfully, were spared
significant damage as compared to the facilities North of the
Grand Strand. Not to say, many facilities experienced major
damage here on the Grand Strand, but compared to our northern
neighbors, we were spared Florence’s wrath.
In a three
week span, starting on September 11, with a mandatory evacuation
of all Coastal counties of SC for a category 4 storm headed our
way, facilities prepared for the worst. We were spared, as the
storm made land fall North of us, regrettably to our NC Coastal
facilities.
Most Area
VII facilities were re-opened by Tuesday September 18. Due the
extensive rain brought on by the slow moving Florence, flooding
followed. Record breaking floods occurred North of us, causing
rivers headed south to overflow their banks and closing
facilities on the Grand Strand.
TPC Myrtle
Beach, Willbrook Plantantion, Long Bay Club, Blackmoor Golf Club,
Wachesaw Plantation Club, Heritage Club were closed for 2 to 10
days and Aberdeen CC is still closed today, due to extensive
flooding of the clubhouse.
Rounds are
down throughout the Area VII facilities due to these storms and
the negative media reports about our area.
On a
positive note, most facilities have recovered well and are
showing some good numbers for late October and November.
