| An
update from your Area Director, Ben Smith, PGA: As we all
gear up for the fall season, there are a handful of playing and
educational opportunities available for Members and Associates.
More information about those events is below, and I look forward
to seeing many of you around the Lowcountry at these events! Congratulations
go out to Seth Sweet, a PGA Assistant Professional at Secession
Golf Club, on his victory in the 2018 Hilton Head Open! Seth
withstood a charge from amateur Connor Moore of Bluffton, SC, to
win this year’s event by one shot, shooting a two-day score of
140 (-4). A special thank you to PGA Professionals Ray Bragg and
Mark Teed of Sea Pines Country Club for hosting the event! Even
through the daily rain showers, the SPCC team provided fantastic
conditions, great hospitality, and a great test of golf. In other
tournament results, congratulations to Charles Fox, PGA
Professional at Spring Island, and his partner Riley Schank on
their victory in the HHIPGA Pro-Scratch. A spectacular 64 (-8)
included 7 birdies on the front nine and was good enough to sneak
by the 2017 champions, Seth Sweet and Matt Nihiser by one shot.
Our gratitude goes out to PGA Professionals Tom Logue and AJ
Gerlach for hosting the event at Moss Creek Golf Club. Finally, as
you read this we are likely in the middle of our first Area III
Assistants’ Day of 2018. We are indebted to Kiawah Island Club
for hosting this event focused on hiring to a culture. Our plan
is to hold another Area III Assistants’ Day in the southern part
of the Lowcountry later in 2018, so be on the lookout for more
              information to come. Best wishes
go out to everyone on a successful fall season! As always, if I
can assist with anything please feel free to reach out. |
