An update from your Area Director, Brett Miller, PGA:

Hello All,

        I hope this note finds you all well, wrapping up the season and getting ready for a winter respite. It was quite the challenging year for us all with bizarre weather and challenging turf conditions.   Here is an update of what has gone on in our area.

Our fellow professionals have had various activities and promotions for the game of golf in their respective areas and courses. From PGA Junior League teams, custom clinics, going into public schools for presentations and working with many different groups, we all our trying to reach out to grow the game.  Thanks to all for their efforts.

PGA Hope Asheville had another great year and thanks to Brian Oliver, lead instructor and the other PGA professionals who helped in the clinics for our vets.  This took place this Summer at Broadmoor Golf Links in Fletcher and averaged 20 -22 participants.  At the end of the session, all received certificates and a set of golf clubs!  If you have any unused sets at your club or if your replacing rental sets, please let us know.  We have deserving vets in next years session waiting for a set of golf clubs!

PGA Junior League has been growing in the Carolinas section at a fast pace and in our area as well.  We are currently speaking with the Development directors at the Boys and Girls Clubs in NC to try to connect with them to get junior league in their programming schedules.  The PGA does have a grant to those kids in need for a scholarship and many at Boys & Girls Clubs do qualify, stay tuned. 

Area Meetings

Our Fall meeting went well and thanks to Nic Oskula from GOLFTEC for presenting and Jeff Abbot our executive director, for making the trip up for this event.  We had a great showing and event and several of us headed over to Sierra Nevada brewery for lunch and comraderie.  A good time was had by all.

Our next get together is scheduled for noon on December 4^th at Links O Tryon in Gowensville, SC for an afternoon skins game and a quick open forum session after.  This will be an MSR event. Two man teams, $45 entry.  Email me to sign up.  Thanks to host professional, Marc Brady.

Transition time.  There are several job openings in our area from General Manager, several head professional jobs and postings for next year for assistant golf professionals. Check with our employment consultant Mike Mueller  for more information on these positions. Also, if you are not following Mike via his emails or on Linked In, sign up!  He has some very interesting information on our industry and some best practices for attracting employees and retaining in this world of societal change.

Look for sign up to come soon for our annual meeting and “Super Show”  (new name for big week).   Jeff and his staff are once again working on an exciting event with guest speakers and promo’s for all to enjoy. Sign up when registration opens in January!
