DESCRIPTION:Monday\, October 7\, 2019\nGreensboro National – Greensboro\, NC\nHost Professional: Justin Malone\, PGA\nPhone: (336) 342-1113 \n  \nFirst Responders of the Triad Pro-Am \n  \nGreensboro National Golf Club hosted the Inaugural First Responders of the Triad Pro-Am on Monday October 7 at 12:30 PM.  The participants were treated to a day filled with golf\, food\, fellowship\, and various opportunities to help support the area first responders.  Crews from across local and state emergency services were on hand to display their vehicles.  They included Bethany Volunteer Fire Dept\, Summerfield Volunteer Fire Dept\, Yanceyville Volunteer Fire Dept\, North Carolina Dept of Forestry\, and the Rockingham Co Sheriff’s Dept.  Short Sugar’s Barbecue treated the players to a fantastic lunch and Titleist provided the players with a uniquely embroidered duffle bag as a tee gift.  Before teeing off\, Sheriff Sam Page addressed players by saying that an estimated 4.6 million career and volunteer firefighters\, police\, emergency medical technicians\, and paramedic workers serve communities across the nation\, according to the Department of Homeland Security. My staff and the representatives from our first responder units here today want to thank GREENSBORO NATIONAL for hosting this event and for recognizing their efforts in our community. He then added that from his observation\, he had seen great results from the fundraising efforts\, and he wanted to personally thank all of those who responded to the invitation to play and give back to our community.  Sheriff Page expects this to be a very important yearly activity on our calendar for years to come and hopes it will be for everyone. \nSuperintendent Vicente Hernandez and his staff had the golf course in excellent condition for players to enjoy while also being challenged.  Furniture 2020 team member\, Bobby Loy\, commented how he could not get over how great the course was and how fair it was setup for players.  He added that he loved how there were risk/reward opportunities out there as well as the showcasing of the true difficulty of the course. \nEveryone was treated to a delicious dinner put on by Heather Blakely\, Chef Erik Padgett and their staff while surveying the various silent auction items for bid that ranged from autographed basketballs from Coaches Roy Williams and Tony Bennett to numerous jerseys and even an autographed Clemson helmet from Coach Dabo Sweeney. \nIn the end\, the TruHomes team captained by Savio Nazareth captured the 1st place team title with blistering 33 under par 111 followed by a 3-way tie for 2nd at 113 and then a tie for 5th 114.  In the Pro Division\, Greensboro National’s very own\, Jimmy Flippen Jr\, edged out strong performances by Mitch Adams and John Faidley by 1 shot to claim the Low Pro Honors. Flippen’s scorecard included birdies on 1\,2\,6\,9\,10\,17\,and 18 against 1 bogey on 8.  Clark Rose and John Faidley tied for the most birdies by a pro with 8 each while PGA Life Member Bob Leaver carded the lone bogey free round with a 70.  Greensboro National echoes the comments of Sheriff Page that they cannot thank the players and sponsors enough for their support for this year’s event and hopes to see the participation continue to grow exponentially in the coming years.
