November 30, 2018

Pinehurst, NC (November 30, 2018) – It has been a chilly few days at the 2018 E-Z-GO / AHEAD Carolinas PGA Pro-Pro Championship, but full of great play and fun events! This year’s Championship was host to 296 players (133 teams) and took place at Dormie Club, Mid South Club & Pinehurst No. 8.

The players competed in some great team formats on each course: Dormie Club – Four-Ball, Mid South Club – Captain’s Choice, Pinehurst No. 8 – Modified Alternate Shot.

After a lot of close competition, Nick Jacobi & Charles Chapman were crowned our 2018 Pro-Pro Champions! The team finished at 21-under par for the 54-hole event. Jacobi of Monroe Country Club and Chapman of Olde Sycamore Golf Club shot an impressive 57 (-14) in their final round at Mid South Club in the Captain’s Choice format. This advanced Jacobi & Chapman 16 spots up the leaderboard and secured their place at the top of the field. With two eagles and 10 birdies on the scorecard, this was also the low round of the tournament. The winning team posted rounds of 69-67-57 on No. 8, Dormie, and Mid South, respectively, to finish at their 193 total.

Finishing three shots back from the winning team was Rohan Allwood of Mid Carolina Club & Steve Larick of Golden Hills Golf and Country Club, shooting 61-68-66 for a 54-hole total of 195. Alone in third place and five strokes back from our low score, was the team of Matt Vick of Pinhurst No. 7 and Savio Nazareth of Starmount Forest Country Club. Vick & Nazareth posted three scores of 62-71-64 for the 197 54-hole total. Their final round score of 64 at Dormie Club propelled them up the leaderboard 5 spots, ahead of the four teams tied only one stroke back in that fourth place position.

Tuesday night, the Pro-Pro Putting Contest took place on the Thistle Dhu putting course at Pinehurst Resort under the lights. There was some intense competition but the Pinehurst team of Ben Bridgers and Matt Barksdale took home the title of Champions and had the chance to putt for the $5,000 Hole-in-One USA 50-foot putt. Although neither teammate made this putt, the putting contest title was enough and a great time was had by all that competed on the infamous course!

The annual E-Z-GO Ping Pong Challenge was a heated competition amongst many, as golfers showcased their other hidden talents on the ping-pong table. Kelly Mitchum of Pinehurst came out victorious and will hold that cherished title going into 2019.

Thank you to everyone who brought items to donate to Toys 4 Tots and the canned food drive. All items will be donated to local Sandhills charities and will be greatly appreciated going into the holiday season.

None of this week’s events would have been possible without the generous support and hospitality from many. First, we extend a huge thank you to our Title Partners on the event, E-Z-GO and AHEAD. Our Presenting Partners, Global Golf Sales, Stitich Golf, and Tifosi Optics were tremendous, as well. Supporting Partners include Evolve Golf, Source 4, Jani King, Hole-in-One USA, and Merchant Services LTD. Lastly, the support from Mid South Club, Dormie Club, Pinehurst No. 8, and Pinehurst Resort was immeasurable and beyond appreciated by all the Section staff.
