McLaughlin & Brennan Win 2018 Pro-Assistant Championship

July 17, 2018

Wallace, NC – The second and final round of the 2018 Pro-Assistant Championship is complete after another day full of impressive and exciting golf. Other than a brief bit of rain, the players were in luck when some bad weather decided to narrowly miss River Landing to allow for an overall smooth day on the River Course.

The TPC Wakefield Plantation team, Adam McLaughlin and Matt Brennan, tied for the lead with Walnut Creek CC Professional, Clark Rose and Neal Lancaster. Both teams finished at 16-under par after the 36-hole event, taking them to a playoff on the 18 hole. McLaughlin and Brennan held their lead through this playoff when McLaughlin birdied the par-4 while the Rose/Lancaster team made a steady par.

The winning team continued their clean scorecard trend into this second round carding six birdies with the rest pars. Rose and Lancaster were gunning for the title while they played the back nine alone at 6-under par, including an eagle on the par-5 13th hole.

Only one stroke behind these two teams finished the Kiawah Island – Cassique partners, Dylan Thew and Rupe Taylor, at 15-under par. These professionals played consistently day to day, holding that runner-up score to our tied winners in the championship. Alone at 13-under par is the Maple Chase Golf and Country Club team, Sean Branagan and Brad Lubechow.

We yet again held some closest-to-the-hole competitions on three of the par-3’s. While we had three winners, Brent Bowen, Head Professional at Duke University GC, came out on top with a hole-in-one on the 182 yard par-3, 17th. This was Bowen’s first ever hole-in-one and smoothly made one hop and rolled right in the hole. Congratulations and great shot to Brent! Adam Szoke won one of the competitions, yet again, on hole #3, hitting it to 4’9”. Our third winner was Robert Hoadley who hit his shot to 2’7” on hole #10. Great shots by all!

This exciting team event would not be possible without the support from our generous partners. This year’s championship is presented by Yamaha Golf Cars, Greg Norman, PING, and Four County EMC. The event is supported by Global Golf Sales, Kirk & Matz, and Evolve Golf. Thanks to the many company representatives that have come out for the event!

We are also incredibly thankful for the hospitality from Larry George and his entire staff at River Landing. This is the sixth year that they are the host club and are always great to work with!
