Career Corner - December

With PGA Career Consultant, Michael Mueller

With my final newsletter article of 2017, I thought it would be a good idea to look back at the year (from my eyes), and more importantly, look forward to the coming year. It is difficult for me to believe that I have been in this position as your Career Consultant for almost six months, and I can honestly say that I think that I have the best job in the Carolinas.

In those six months, I have had the opportunity to meet and talk with many of you both at CPGA events and your facilities. Meeting PGA Members and Apprentices has been the highlight of my year, and the relationships I have formed with many of you are what make me most proud as I reflect on 2017. It is my opinion that the Carolinas PGA is the best Section in the country, and that is due to the quality of our Members and Apprentices and the guidance provided by Section leadership and the staff at CPGA Headquarters.

Looking forward to 2018, I have several goals that are focused on creating relationships with PGA Members and Apprentices and providing all of you with a range of services that you perceive as valuable. Included on that list are:

Provide relationship-based, long term Career Coaching services

I believe this is the most important service I can provide to CPGA Professionals, as it allows me to develop long term relationships with Members and Apprentices with a goal of building a career, instead of simply finding a job. To accomplish this, I will be setting up appointments in Greenville, NC (January 9th), Wilmington, NC (January 10th), Pinehurst, NC (January 11th), and Raleigh, NC (January 12th). I will also be available at the PGA Merchandise Show in January and at CPGA Big Week in February. Send me an email at if you would like to schedule an appointment.

Create content aimed at educating Professionals regarding ways to increase compensation

Compensation is the number one questions I get from Professionals, and for good reason. We all would like to make a little more money, and feel like we are fairly compensated. Watch my newsletters for ideas to increase compensation (you can read my November newsletter to get started). Finally, you can do your part to help increase compensation throughout the industry by completing the PGA Compensation Survey in early 2018!

Create new educational opportunities throughout the CPGA for Career Enhancement

I want to provide you with learning opportunities to enhance your careers while networking and learning from your peers. I am currently working on a series of events, tailored to specific career paths, to serve this purpose.

With that, I have two final thoughts. First, I am going to ask you to make a New Year’s Resolution to make 2018 the best year of your career, and I hope that I can help you in achieving that goal. Second, I want to wish you and your families a safe and happy Holiday season.

You’re looking forward to a great 2018 Career Consultant,

Michael Mueller, PGA
