Skirpstas Takes Win at National Car Rental CPGA Assistant Championship

Presented by Srixon/Cleveland/XXIO

PGA Apprentice Peter Skirpstas of Jacksonville Country Club is the champion of the National Car Rental Carolinas Assistant PGA Professional Championship presented by Srixon/Cleveland/XXIO conducted at Prestonwood Country Club located in Cary, NC.

Skirpstas, the low professional at the Carolinas PGA’s 2017 North and South Carolina Opens began his second round two strokes behind the leader, Ray Franz of Daniel Island Club (-4). Both players began their rounds on the hardest starting hole of the PGA Champions Tour, the Highlands Course’s number one hole. The weather conditions did not make it any easier. However, up to 10 mph winds and constant drizzle did not stop Skirpstas from firing 33-34= 67 (-5) and winning the event with a cumulative score of 137 (-7). Franz finished with a day two score of 35-35=70 (-2) and a total 138 (-6).

Skirpstas and four other Carolinas PGA Professionals qualified for the 41st National Car Rental  Assistant PGA Professional Championship to take place November 9-12 at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, FL. Those advancing along with the champion include: Ray Franz of Daniel Island Club (-6), Aaron Black of Edgewater Golf Club (-2), Savio Nazareth of Starmount Forest Country Club (-1), and Tommy Gibson of Old Town Club (E).

In addition to the five players with secured positions, four alternates for the national competition were determined.
