Greensboro, NC (June 29, 2021) - The second and final round of the 2021 Carolinas Boys Junior PGA Championship concluded with Raleigh native Alan Van Asch taking the crown at -6, 136.
Even the ninety degree weather could not stop Van Asch from carding nine birdies during the tournament. Van Asch began the second round tied for first at -1 with Will Conway, Jack LaPiana, and Ryan Jahr but quickly set himself apart with a birdie on No. 1 and three birdies in a row on No. 5-7.
Van Asch will compete later this Summer at the 2021 Boys Junior PGA Championship at Kearney Hills Golf Links in Lexington, Kentucky.
There were two playoffs contested on the Par 4 No. 9 Hole for the runner-up champion who will be the second qualifier for the Boys Junior PGA Championship. Timmy Gannon and Daniel McBrien finished the tournament at -1, 141 and competed in the playoff where Gannon eventually won by one stroke during the second playoff and was named the runner-up champion. McBrien as well as Branden Boyce who finished at +1,143 will be the two alternates for the Championship in July.
A big thank you to Chris Terry, PGA and all of the staff at The Cardinal by Pete Dye for making this tournament an amazing success.
About The Cardinal by Pete Dye
With a reputation as a formidable test, The Cardinal offers some of the most rewarding play in Greensboro. Its modern, 140-acre layout designed by Pete Dye meanders along a countryside stream, over two lakes and through wooded glades. A number of holes feature Dye’s signature railroad ties including number 12, as he called it after the restoration, “the hardest par three I ever designed.”
Originally known as Cardinal Golf and Country Club, the course was restored to its original layout and lengthened in 2006 when brought under McConnell Golf ownership. In February 2019, McConnell Golf announced the club’s transition to semi-private.
