SC Junior League Golfer Earns First Caddie Pick

Congratulations to SC Junior League Golfer, Jalen Castle who earns the coveted first caddie pick (for the Girls Division) at the 2016 Monday After The Masters Pro-Am!

(South Carolina Amateur Golf Magazine)

Jalen Castle and Grant Sellers earned the coveted first caddie picks at the 2016 Monday After The Masters Pro-Am. Jalen Castle wins the Girls Division in only her second SCJGA start since having a procedure called Anterior Vertebral Body Tethering to fix her spine in 2015. The West Columbia native played her first three holes at four over par, then rallied back to play her next six holes at two under and turn with a score of 38. Jalen made six pars on her way to a closing 40 to shoot 78 for the day and earn the girls top selection. Delany Mortier of North Charleston came in second one shot behind Castle. The coveted positions will get to choose their “team” based on their stroke play finish. The players will have the opportunity to get close to today’s celebrities, professional athletes, and stars of the PGA Tour.

Additionally, Jalen recently met with hero Stacy Lewis during a #ThxPGAPro taping in Houston. Jalen suffers from scoliosis and shares a similar medical story to Stacy. This was a very exciting day for both players. Jalen and the rest of her PGA JLG team, along with their coach Tom Mason, PGA will be featured in the upcoming #ThxPGAPro TV special on CBS on May 7. Keep an eye out for Jalen and the rest of her amazing team!

Mitchum Wins CPGA Head Professional Championship

Secures Two PGA Tour Exemptions

(Hilton Head Island, SC) – Kelly Mitchum, PGA backed up a 70 (-2) on Monday with a 69 (-3) on the final day of the Carolinas PGA Head Professional Championship to take home the crystal.  After earning an exemption into the RBC Heritage PGA Tour event on day one, Mitchum's strong play continued into the final round where he won the exemption to play in the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, NC.

Mitchum, a PGA teaching professional at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in Pinehurst, NC, had four birdies on his card for his 3-under-par 69 round that was enough to win by three strokes with a total 5-under-par (139).  The round started solid after making birdie on hole number 2.

"I hit 8-iron in to about 20 or 25 feet...then made a double-breaking putt that went right in the hole."

Playing PGA Tour events is nothing new for Mitchum who has played his way into nearly 20 tournaments through CPGA section events alone, making the cut twice at the RBC Heritage, where he will play in April, and five times overall.

"The last time I made the cut I was paired with John Daly.  That was a blast!"

Finishing the tournament in second place was Matt Vick, Head Professional at Pinehurst Country Club No.9, who finished the day with an even-par round of 72 for a total of 2-under-par (142).  Vick carded three birdies in the final round.  In third, tournament host and PGA Director of Golf at Wexford Golf Club, Scott Hunter had an up and down round with four birdies to finish with 146 (+2).

The RBC Heritage will take place at Sea Pines Resort’s Harbour Town Golf Links on April 14-17 in Hilton Head Island, SC and the Wells Fargo Championship will be held at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, NC on May 5-8.  The Carolinas PGA congratulates Mitchum on his victories and wishes his great play will continue as he represents his fellow CPGA professionals in the tournament.

Conditions at Wexford Golf Club were clear skies, a mild breeze, and temperatures in the high 70's.
