Bova Captures 65th South Carolina Open
(Beaufort, SC) - The second and final day of competition provided perfect scoring conditions for the field of the 65th South Carolina Open Presented by Yamaha Golf Cars at Dataw Island Club located in Beaufort, SC. One-hundred-twenty of the top playing PGA Professionals and amateur golfers in the Carolinas teed it up for the 36-hole championship.
Matt Bova, the PGA Head Professional from Haig Point Club in Hilton Head Island, SC, entered the day in a seven-way tie for second place at 71 (-1) - one stroke behind defending champion Cory Schneider, the PGA Teaching Professional from The Pointe Golf Club in Powells Point, NC. Bova sank four birdies and had one double-bogey on his way to a 36-34=70 (-2) for a two-day total of 141 (-3) including a heroic up-and-down for par on the 558-yard par-5 #18 from behind the green to an extremely difficult hole location. That save proved critical and helped Bova earn a one-stroke victory.
