Wyndham Championship Pro Am Walking Ambassador Program

PGA Members and Apprentices:

The Carolinas PGA will once again provide walking ambassadors for the Wyndham Pro-Ams.  Please mark your calendar if you are interested in helping on Monday, August 15 and/or Wednesday, August 17.  Feel free to reply to this email if you want to get on the list.

We are recruiting PGA Professionals to be walking ambassadors for the Pro-Ams at Sedgefield Country Club for the Wyndham Championship.  This program has been very well-received in past years and has been a great experience for those who volunteered.  We will be walking along with a tour player and his group, providing assistance to the amateurs as they play.  This may involve providing yardages, reading greens, raking bunkers, giving tips, etc., to help the tour player and his caddie help their team.

Volunteers will receive 5 MSR

Please contact Kurt Battenberg at the Section Office if you are interested in helping.

Hilton Head Island PGA Junior League golfers score back-to-back aces

Story via PGA.com

Harrison Mancill, 13, and John Berrigan, 10, did something amazing on Friday night. In the final match for two Hilton Head PGA Junior League Golf teams at the Country Club of Hilton Head (Country Club of Hilton Head #2 vs. Wexford Plantation), the pair had back-to-back holes in one on the 89-yard, par-3 fifth hole.

The National Hole in One Registry sets the odds of two players from the same foursome acing the same hole at 17 million to one

Not bad for two kids whose combined age is one year older than Jordan Spieth.

Mancill was the first to score an ace, dropping the ball in the hole with a wedge. Berrigan, representing the Wexford team, immediately answered with his 9-iron shot.

Mancill is the son of PGA Member Jim Mancill from Sapelo Hammock Golf Club in Shellman Bluff, Ga.

May & Cordes Win Weather-Shortened CPGA Pro-Assistant Championship

The team of Joe May, PGA, and Anthony Cordes scorched the course with a first round 10-under (62) to lead the field of 77 teams at the 2016 Carolinas PGA Pro-Assistant Championship Presented by Ping, Greg Norman Collection, Yamaha Golf Cars, and Four County Electric Membership Corporation held at River Landing CC in Wallace, NC.  Unfortunately, the tournament was not able to overcome three suspensions due to lightning in the area during the second and final round.

During the first round, May, the PGA Head Professional at Hillandale Golf Course in Durham, NC, and his partner, Cordes, a PGA Apprentice Assistant Professional at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club, combined for 10 birdies and no bogeys.  Starting on the back nine to begin their round, it was May who got the ball rolling with birdies on 12, 13, and 16.  An inspired Cordes then drained birdies on 17, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and capped it with another birdie on their final hole, number 9.

Close behind, the team of Chris Haarlow, the PGA Director / Instructor at Precision Golf School, and Drew Younts, a PGA Apprentice Teaching Professional also at Precision Golf School, went 31-33 for an 8-under round of 64, just two strokes back of the leaders.  Haarlow and Younts combined for 7 birdies and an eagle.
