Carolinas PGA Section Grows With Addition Of Player Development & Foundation Operations Manager Position

Christopher Gaines, PGA to Assume New Role

Greensboro, N.C. (December 1, 2016) – The Carolinas PGA Section is proud to announce the promotion of staff member and PGA Professional Christopher Gaines to Player Development and Foundation Operations Manager. Gaines previously assumed the role of resident Tournament Official at Carolinas PGA Headquarters.

The Player Development and Foundation Operations Manager position was recently established by the Carolinas PGA Section and Carolinas PGA REACH Foundation in their need to find an individual with the ability to develop and grow the programs and initiatives of the Carolinas PGA REACH Foundation. Gaines will be responsible for the planning and execution of all player development programming, including youth golf initiatives, as well as managing current funding resources of the Foundation. In addition to member development and volunteer recruitment for all player development initiatives, the bulk of his responsibilities will include the implementation of  Foundation programs to include youth, diversity & inclusion and military (PGA HOPE) initiatives (including 2017 PGA Championship foundation initiatives at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte), the management of day-to-day operations for the Carolinas PGA Junior League Golf program, and, in cooperation with the PGA of America, USGA and Augusta National Golf Club, management of the day-to-day operations of the Section’s Drive, Chip & Putt Championship local, sub-regional and regional competitions.

“It is a tremendous honor to continue my career with the Carolinas PGA Section in this capacity. I am humbled by our members support, grateful for the belief the panel has in me, and thankful for the home my family has found in the Carolinas.  The journey ahead, developing our Foundation to create positive impacts in our communities and growing the game of golf through PGA Junior League Golf and Drive, Chip & Putt, is bright and could not be possible without the enormous support of our 2,000 men and women professionals,” says Gaines.

“We are delighted to promote Chris to his new role.  We have exciting plans for the Carolinas PGA REACH Foundation and Chris will undoubtedly help take it to a new level!” adds Carolinas PGA Executive Director, Jeff Abbot.

Chris has been part of the Carolinas PGA Section team for nearly a year and officially assumes his new role on December 1, 2016. Prior to his time at the Section, Gaines worked in various avenues of the golf industry. This includes the Southwest Section PGA and PGA of America headquarters, where he interned in the Marketing and Public Relations departments, as well as in the Philadelphia PGA Section, where he assisted with the Philadelphia Junior Tour. Before his work in the golf industry, Gaines held marketing and sales positions with the Ricoh Americas Corporation, Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile USA, after graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in the Hospitality Administration/Management and Professional Golf Management Programs from the University of Las Vegas and from the University of Washington, with a Bachelor’s in English Literature.
